Projects to date
The Jomati Foundation has funded a variety of projects since its establishment including:
International Lawyers Project www.internationallawyersproject.org
This is a UK based charity (Charity No.1114502) established in 2006 to provide assistance to developing countries to develop and enhance their legal systems and to provide training to lawyers operating in these countries. The Jomati Foundation funded the first year’s cost of the International Lawyers Project’s Project Manager. Its ongoing operations are now funded by a range of major UK and US based law firms.
Bar Examination Scholarships
A range of highly qualified graduates do not have the financial means to undertake the necessary further education to qualify as barristers. The Jomati Foundation provided significant bursaries to two well-qualified graduates to enable them to undertake their postgraduate training and to qualify as barristers.
CRAC
CRAC is a charity (Charity No.313164). It ran a programme for sixth formers primarily from ethnic minorities and other groups under represented in the legal profession to encourage them to consider a career in the legal profession. The Jomati Foundation provided 25% of the funding for the programme and was the first organisation to commit funding to the programme. The balance of the funding was subsequently provided by The College of Law, Lovells, Clifford Chance, Herbert Smith, Wragges, Linklaters, Slaughter and May, Freshfields, Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw and Allen & Overy. The CRAC website is www.crac.org.uk.
The Coram Family
www.coram.org.uk
The Coram Family is one of the UK’s oldest charities (Charity No. 312278) and has an unrivalled reputation in a range of family related issues. The Jomati Foundation is providing the financing to enable The Coram Family to establish a training programme for solicitors on supervised contact arrangements involving children. The purpose of the programme is to make solicitors more aware of the implications of and best practice involving contact arrangements between children and their parents. It is intended that the programme will be authorised by The Law Society for Continuing Professional Development purposes. Once operational, the programme will be self-funding and indeed should produce a profit for use in the Coram Family’s other family contact activities.
